UK-based transport connectivity solutions specialists Nomad Digital says it has signed an extended Operations and Maintenance agreement with Queensland Rail in Australia.
The five-year contract will see Nomad offer support and maintenance covering an extensive range of on-board connectivity solutions. There is also an option to extend the contract for a further two-years.
This collaboration has seen Nomad Digital provide connectivity solutions for Queensland Rail fleets for more than a decade, including the first rail on-board passenger WiFi service in Australia. Most recently, the Nomad Digital Engage Portal has been implemented on the Queensland Rail Electric Tilt Trains running between Brisbane, Bundaberg and Rockhampton. Nomad Digital’s Engage Portal is a dedicated on-board network that offers passengers access to licensed entertainment content including movies, TV shows and music via their own smart devices. Live maps of the journey and safety information are also available.
Ian Brimer, Operations & Maintenance Director, Nomad Digital commented, “The team at Nomad Digital are proud to be continuing our longstanding partnership with Queensland Rail to support their package of connectivity solutions on board their fleets. The new Operations and Maintenance agreement demonstrates our performance and illustrates the confidence Queensland Rail have in our services and solutions that support their passenger experience both now and in the future with a connectivity platform to build upon.”
The spread of on-board WiFi services, trackside wireless delivery and the increasing use of LEO satellites to boost connectivity will all be fully discussed at this year’s WiFi on Trains Conference, hosted by BWCS in London (www.Traincomms.com ).
