West Coast Train Operator Issues Major RFI – (Link Here)

Friday 10 Jul 2026

The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) which operates trains up and down the northern cities of California, has asked BWCS to make everyone aware of a major new RFI, which it has just issued.

The Request for Information (RFI) is seeking details on solutions that could be used in a next-generation Digital Train Communications and Operations (DTCO) system to succeed the operator’s current on-board WiFi and connectivity services. Through this RFI, CCJPA seeks to understand the vendor marketplace’s approaches, capabilities, and strategic direction, ahead of a planned Request for Proposals (RFP), expected for release in early 2027.

To help prospective respondents understand CCJPA’s business and technical objectives and to enable them to ask clarifying questions before preparing a response, CCJPA will host a pre-submission call on the 26th of July, which will be open to all interested vendors.

The RFI is open now and available here: https://www.capitolcorridor.org/opportunities/

The Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) is a partnership among six local transit agencies in an eight-county service area which shares the administration and management of the 170-mile Capitol Corridor inter-city passenger rail system in and around the cities of Northern California. It runs 118 passenger cars, 69 of which are bi-level and carries over one million passengers per year.

Stuart Bishop from CCJPA will be one of the main speakers at this year’s Traincomms Conference, hosted by BWCS in London on the 18th and 19th of November.

The spread of on-board WiFi services, trackside wireless delivery and the increasing use of LEO satellites to boost connectivity will all be fully discussed at this year’s WiFi on Trains Conference, hosted by BWCS in London (www.Traincomms.com ).

The Main Sponsors for Traincomms 2026 are Icomera, Huber+Suhner and Nomad Digital. Westermo, Hughes Europe, CGI, Unwired and Eutelsat are also Sponsoring the Conference. Antonics is an Expo Sponsor.

Tickets to attend the Conference are available now via http://traincomms.com/book1.cfm
